Indian government issues security warning for Windows laptops, desktop users: Here is how to secure your data

The Indian government has issued a cybersecurity warning for Windows laptops and desktop users. Here is how you can secure your device and data.

AI, artificial intelligence, computing, microsoft, Windows 11 Pro
Microsoft ecosystem users alerted of a new cybersecurity vulnerability by Indian government.

If you are using a Windows laptop or desktop, this news is crucial for your data security. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), a government agency under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India focusing on matters of cybersecurity, has issued a warning for all enterprise users relying on the Microsoft ecosystem for carrying out their business affairs. A dangerous vulnerability puts millions of users and their data at risk.

Based on a published report from CERT on dated 15 May, 2025, it is said that the multiple vulnerabilities can give cybercriminals an easy access to Microsoft ecosystem devices and allow data theft as well as crashes. What’s even more dangerous is that the issue extends beyond the world of Windows laptops and PCs. Anyone using any of the vulnerable Microsoft services on other platforms is equally prone to cyberattack risks.

Hence, if you use a Mac or Android device with Microsoft Office, Azure services and other apps, you are equally at risk.

Which Microsoft services are affected

The vulnerabilities discovered by CERT affect the following services:

  • Microsoft Windows
  • Extended Security Updates (ESU) for legacy Microsoft products
  • Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Microsoft Developer Tools
  • Microsoft Apps
  • Microsoft System Center
  • Microsoft Dynamics

Which Microsoft users are vulnerable

The vulnerabilities affect personal and enterprise users. IT administrators and security teams are at risk too.

What can the vulnerabilities do

The CERT In report says that the vulnerabilities could allow attackers to execute remote code, gain elevated privileges, access sensitive information, bypass security restrictions, conduct spoofing attacks and cause denial-of-service (DoS) conditions.

These activities can lead to several cybersecurity risks such as data theft, ransomware attacks, affecting system stability and more disruptions.

What should you do to secure your PC

In order to secure the systems from cyberattacks, the government agency advises all private and enterprise users to install Microsoft’s latest security patches as soon as possible. Keep an eye on the latest Windows Update releases and install them at the earliest. Users on other platforms should update their Microsoft Apps to secure their data. IT teams and system administrators should keep their antivirus and malware detection systems up to date.

iPhone 17 Air weight & battery leak: Apple’s thinnest iPhone may disappoint some fans - Here's why

The iPhone 17 Air leaks suggest it could be the slimmest and lightest iPhone ever, with a 5.5 mm-thin body and just 145g weight. However, concerns rise over its smaller iPhone 17 Air battery pack of 2800mAh despite the stylish design.

iPhone 17 Air weight & battery leak: The iPhone 17 Air leaks have started gaining attention as rumours suggest this could be the slimmest iPhone ever made. With the tech world buzzing about its thin design and lightweight build, Apple fans are eagerly waiting for the official reveal, expected around September. However, the most surprising part of the leaks isn’t just the sleek design, but the size of the iPhone 17 Air battery pack, which might disappoint some users.

iPhone 17 Air may be thinner than ever before

According to fresh iPhone 17 Air leaks reported in News18, Apple could launch a smartphone just 5.5mm thick, making it thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, which is 5.85mm. If true, this would make the iPhone 17 Air the slimmest iPhone to date and one of the thinnest smartphones in the world.

Despite the ultra-slim design, the phone is expected to come with a large 6.6-inch OLED display featuring ProMotion technology that supports a 120Hz refresh rate.

iPhone 17 Air weight: Lighter than Galaxy S25 Edge

The iPhone 17 Air's weight is also expected to surprise users. The leaked reports claim it could weigh around 145 grams, making it over 20 grams lighter than Samsung’s S25 Edge. With such a slim and light design, Apple is focusing on portability and aesthetics.

However, some experts are concerned that the lightweight design may come at the cost of essential hardware features like battery life or camera setup.

Smaller iPhone 17 Air battery pack raises concerns

One of the biggest talking points is the rumoured iPhone 17 Air battery pack, which may only be 2800mAh in capacity. In comparison, the Galaxy S25 Edge features a 3900mAh battery. This could be a major concern for users who rely on long battery life.

Still, Apple might introduce a new battery technology that improves efficiency despite the smaller size. Additionally, Apple is said to be planning an external battery case for the iPhone 17 Air, which could help extend usage time while opening another revenue stream for the company.

Performance and camera – What else to expect

The iPhone 17 Air will likely be powered by Apple’s upcoming A19 Bionic chip, ensuring top performance. It may also feature Apple’s own C1 modem, which made its debut with the iPhone 16e.

On the camera front, the Air model could include a single 48MP rear camera and a 24MP front camera. Though this setup might seem minimal, Apple usually delivers excellent image quality even with fewer lenses.

iPhone 17 Air expected price

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch for Rs. 1,09,500 in India.

iPhone 17 Air expected specifications

  • Display: 6.6-inch OLED with ProMotion (120Hz refresh rate)
  • Processor: A19 Bionic
  • Rear Camera: 48MP
  • Front Camera: 24MP
  • Battery: 2800mAh
  • Thickness: 5.5mm
  • Weight: 145g

iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max Price (Expected)

In India, the iPhone 17 may start at around Rs 89,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max could cost up to Rs 1,64,900. In the United States, the starting price is expected to be about $899. In Dubai, the base model might be priced around AED 3,799. Depending on local taxes and duties, the Pro Max model could cost more than $2,300 in some countries.

iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max Launch Date (Expected)

Apple is likely to launch the iPhone 17 series between 11 and 13 September 2025.

While the iPhone 17 Air leaks are exciting, they also raise some important questions. Will a thinner iPhone with a smaller battery be practical in everyday use? Or will Apple’s new battery innovations and accessories solve those issues?

As we wait for Apple to officially reveal the iPhone 17 Air, it’s clear that the brand is pushing the boundaries of smartphone design. Whether that pays off or not, only time will tell. Until then, stay tuned for more updates on the iPhone 17 Air weight, battery pack, and latest leaks.
